The Science of Medicine and Bioengineering
As time passes, everyone grows older, inevitably breaking down and suffering from the ravages of time. For centuries mankind has sought ways to extend life and cure ailments. Crocodile dung, bloodletting, echinacea tea, robotic surgery, genome editing, and CRISPR are just some of the fascinating things medicine has tried to use to make our generations last longer and sustain life. General Physics which is now slowly integrating as a subsidiary of SpaceX, with links to Korn Ferry and Citigroup, has to manage the science of bioengineering as it is critical for the development of better life. We are a group of autonomous divisions, with a special biophysics team that started at qb3 and Berkeley in advanced cytoskeleton membrane research. Future medicine will be genetic engineering. Even cybernetics, which requires organo-metallic bonding of neurons to electrical components will need novel new hox genes to express metallic linkages to circuits. The human merges with machine, with computer, in a scary vision of the future where humans will resemble something totally alien to what exists today, Predicting genetic phenotypic evolution, through punctuated equilibrium (not gradual change as some think) means that we have to understand the stochastic changes in genotype as directly correlated to phenotype. Medicine, though, is a practical science. In the upcoming decades, it is predicted that tens of millions will die because of antibiotic resistance. As such, General Physics is heavily invested in finding new dalbavancins, cephalosporins, beta-lactams/beta-lactamase inhibitors, and sulfas that can cure bacterial infections. Of course, we need vaccines too against viral pathogens. We also have to think about improving working conditions, living conditions, access to clean water, better education to prevent disease, improved sanitary practices in rural areas, telemedicine, and so forth. The rising tide lifts all boats. This is why we cannot let things like herd immunity be endangered by anti-vaxxers. Western medicine is a statistical game, and from what General Physics understands, the error bars in biology are usually around 10% to 20%. Effective treatments have to take into account the uncertainty of biological variability and genetics, environmental conditions, and the fundamental turbulence of any physical system, which propagates multiplicatively.

Serving the needs of the patient ensemble in war torn areas, refugee zones, and rural communities that might not find access to medicine as easily as well connected systems, General Physics and its MSF partner combine forces with UNHCR and Amnesty to also alleviate suffering caused by political problems. Naturally, the environment, politics, medicine, and ecology are all connected. Coarse graining of course, tells us that sometimes the atoms connected together are just molecules and there is no emergence. However, many systems connect. PFAS cause health problems but are needed for fire mitigation and prevention. Fluoridation cures cavity problems in the teeth, but it is a political hot potato. Psychology helps patients cope with mental problems but it is hijacked by marketing and advertising executives to sell products. Refined foods are useful for shelf life and storage but might have adverse health effects. We really have to study this. GMOs are contentious even though they are necessary for creating nutrient enriched food staples (like rice, wheat, and corn) for developing areas.
Again, we are in the business of science and as an academic and technical focus requires us to partner with SpaceX and consulting firms to handle the massive problems of our advancing and progressing society, we have to keep in mind that we are here to serve everyone and to make a co-operative model function. Science is a statistical approach that means we have to treat the population. Vaccines are critical. Fluoridation is necessary. GMOs will help more than they hurt. The list of things that science must do is unending. We are foot soldiers in the battle to preserve life and to better its quality. Keep us in mind when you need to solve a complex problem.
